Our Sunday Meetings - We're back meeting in person!!

We are so excited to be gathering back together in person from Sunday (25th July). It has been over a year since we last met together at Altwood School and we can't wait to be back in the hall worshipping together.

For 16 months, we’ve all been subject to restrictions and lockdown rules, and we recognise that we won’t all have the same views about personal risk and comfort as we emerge from those very difficult times.

We want to bring some clarity and give some (hopefully!) helpful advice around certain areas, so that as many of us as possible can feel comfortable in being together in person again. In order for us to meet safely we have created some guidelines (below) that we would like everyone to follow. Please do read these and let’s work together to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Meeting Guidelines

Health: please don’t attend in person at Altwood if you are feeling unwell or anyone in your household is unwell, or if you have been asked to self-isolate by Test and Trace. If you are medically able and eligible, and haven’t already done so, please seriously consider having Covid vaccinations to protect yourself and others.

Covid tests: please consider taking a home Covid test the day before the gathering and only come along in person if the result is negative. All of the leadership team will be following this advice every week. You can get home lateral flow test kits for free from local pharmacies and online here:

Hugs: we have historically been a family that is liberal with its hugs! However, we don’t want people to worry about being grabbed in a loving bear-hug if they’re not happy with that yet! So, we would recommend that we only hug someone once we have checked that they are ok with that. And please do be honest: “Thank you, but I’d rather not” is an absolutely acceptable answer! If you’re very happy to be hugged, we’ll have some stickers available and you can wear one of those to let people know!

Hand sanitizer will be available so please do make use of it.

Masks: we won’t be insisting that everyone wears a mask, but if you would prefer to do so, then please do feel free. We’ll have a seating area set aside for those wearing masks who would like to sit separately from those who don’t.

Chairs: you are welcome to place your chair wherever you’re most comfortable sitting in the room, whether that’s near to others or further away.

Worship: we are now able to sing freely in our sung worship times (and we really want to!) but if you don’t feel comfortable with that, please feel free to sit/stand further away from those who are singing.

Ventilation: we’ll make sure that there’s good ventilation with doors and windows open, so you might want to bring a jacket!

Tea & coffee: please bring your own cup for refreshments

Our vision is: “To give every person in Maidenhead tangible, relevant and life changing encounters with Jesus”, and that starts with our church family. We hope that during our Sunday meetings people will encounter Jesus and also enjoy spending time with each other. We aim to provide inspiration and encouragement because we want to help each other grow spiritually.

We make sure there is something for everyone, whether you are just exploring or whether you have known Jesus for a long time.

During our meetings we run activities for children called River Kids. For more info email

Under 3's are welcome to remain with their parents in the meeting.

All work with children is staffed and run according to Child Protection guidelines by members of the congregation.

Four times a year, we join together with the other River Churches at the same venue for a joint celebration known as River Together
