Dear Friends,

This mail comes to you after our visit to Mulliathevu – North Westpart of Sri Lankaunder LTTE control - which was seriously affected by tsunami. Not even one third of the population from the affected area is escaped from the attack. No one of them could explain what was happen to them within those 5 minutes. Most of the serious were fully necked or half necked, as the result of the attack. The people were shock and could not understand what has happen to them, they were mentally affected.
What we have seen is a tragedy unable to described and explain. And also it’s far different from what we watch in medias. I have been Marinabeach in Chennai at several times, the tsunami affected 200 – 300m from the beach, according to the media coverage. But in Mulliathevu water has affected 2 km from the beach, in certain areas we have seen several fishing boats in that distance, finally broke into two / destroied after smash at Palmary Trees. Even the Road rollers have taken by the waves.
Survives has lost all their belongings and most of their family members. We met children who lost their parents, men lost their wife & children, Women lost their husband & children.
My SaviourChurch{one of the members of the Mannar Evangelical Fellowship} Mullaithievu branch believers were taken by the tsunami while they were worshiping on Sunday morning. Mr. Keetharaj the Pastor of the church lost his wife & children and he was found with injuries in a 2 km distance. Out of the 60 believers worshiping only 15 survived, and the church was totally taken. The pastor of the Jeba allayam church lost his wife & chidden. 8 believers died from the Zionmount prayer house church.
Out of 10000 died in Mulaitheevu only 5000 bodies were found in that area. LTTE members & volunteers are in the process of searching for the bodies.
We have gone with the relief items which we bought through NANPAN ministries fund, and collection of items from the Mannar local churches. I have given below the details of the relief taken by us. Out of the item listed other than the used cloths, 90% was purchased by NANPAN fund.
We met Sutha master- 2nd to Thamilselvan of LTTE political wing-, Mr. Muhunthan – leader of LTTE political wing of Mullaithivue-, Mr. Kanagaratnam – MP Vanni consequence-at emergency net work office at Mullaithivue. LTTE have given us permission to disturbed the relief to the effected people directly. We have distributed the relief to 212 families at Kokkuthoduvai welfare centre. These people are from 3 villages affected by the tsunami. We were the first agency distributed the relief directly to the affected people. According to the sources, relief agencies has been asked to hand it over to the committee which is handling the distribution.
We have asked Sutha master about the urgent need of the survives. According to him urgent needs are - new women clothes including underwear’s, sarongs, dry ration, milk food, vessels and lanterns. And while distributing the aid of relief we have notice that people were asking form empty cardboard boxes, because they don’t have anything to keep even the relief that we have given.
These people have lost most of their loved ones & all their belongings and they were shock & stress and in urgent need of our help to live and start their lives, with the hope of knowing that there is life still in this world for them & there are people who care for them & with them at this time of tragedy.
