Other elements of the big year

DVD materials from the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry
Including teaching from Bill Johnson, Kris Vallotton and others. These will feature in the Tuesday programme. There will also be opportunity to borrow the DVDs to watch in your own time. www.ibssm.org.

Heartstyles
This ministry, which is now an important feature of River Church life, has been developed by Stephen and Mara Klemich. Each year an Introductory Day and a Personal Development Course is delivered. www.heartstyles.com.au

Kairos Missions Course
Using a variety of formats, this imparts God’s heart for the world through an intensive 5 day course. It looks at the Biblical, Historical, Strategic and Cultural aspects of World Mission. Most people who complete this course say that it has had an incredible impact on their lives. www.kairoscourse.org.uk

Conferences and Events

From time to time River Church puts on conferences and events with various speakers including noted international speakers. BIG Year participants have free access to these, with opportunities for service and participation in prayer ministry.

Overseas Mission Trip
In Term 3 there are mission trips for every student to participate in. Previous trips have included Albania, Sierra Leone and Nepal. This is a great opportunity to put into practice all that is learned on the year.

Revival Trips
Each term we will be visiting a site of historical revival history. These will be day trips to Moriah Chapel, Loughor, S. Wales and John Wesley's House and Chapel, London and a four day trip to Lindesfarne and Sunderland. The cost of these is in addition to The BIG Year fees.

“This year has challenged, inspired, stretched and grown me. I would encourage anyone to do it, whether you have been leading for years or only just become a follower of Jesus.” Jane

Other Course Components

Below is a slightly more detailed explaination of some of the other components that make up the Big Year.

MAD Mondays – MAD stands for Mondays at Dedworth (i.e at River's Windsor Hall) and every other week there will be teaching from 9:15 to 10:30 studying a book of the Bible in depth.
FTM
– the Full Team Meeting takes place on alternate Mondays to MAD at the Windsor Hall from 9:15 to 10:30. It is an opportunity for River Leaders and The BIG Year students to pray, worship and share stories together.
An Audience With... - takes place every Thursday evening, except when there is another course or it's a Reading Week. It runs from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at the Windsor Hall. The format of the evening is a meal together and then an opportunity to hear the life story of a guest and learn what it means to follow Jesus through the easy and challenging times. There is opportunity for questions throughout the evening and prayer at the close.
Personal Mentors and Central Leadership Team Mentoring – Each student will be assigned to a mentor group led by two of The BIG Year leadership team. The group will meet regularly and and each student will meet with their mentor every half term on a one to one basis. Ultimately each student must be responsible for their own growth and making good decisions to walk into freedom and destiny but we are there to offer encouragement in the journey.
Ministry and Service – Your mentor group leader will discuss with you what ministry and service areas you can be involved in or are expected to be involved in. We expect all BIG Year students to live with a servant heart and to be eager to serve even when not asked. The level of ministry and service expected will depend mainly on what track you choose.
Study Projects – each term a study project will be set which will require written work and a 10 minute presentation to all the students and The BIG Year Leadership Team. These are structed in a way that allows you to tackle the study area in a way that you feel comfortable, these are never a purely academic exerise, and projects take many different shapes and forms from structured academic pieces to more creative and interactive pieces.

Term 1 will involve studying a book of the Bible

Term 2 will look at an applied theology topic

Term 3 will look at a mission topic or project

Further details for each project will be distributed each term.
