After the widely acclaimed success of last year's event attended by over 1000 people, the Marlow churches got together again to organise Hope in the Park, an open air event which took place on Sunday 17 May 9.30am—4.30pm in Marlow's Higginson Park.

Hope in the Park is about Christians expressing their hope and unity in Jesus Christ by organising a day of faith and fun events for the whole Marlow community.

Activities for children and young people kicked off at 9.30am with a treasure hunt in the play area and a children’s activity tent with face painting, crafts and balloons. Katy Kartwheel of Circus Passion was there to help the children learn for themselves some circus skills.

For the sportier types there was a bungee run, a superslide and a football cage. The Hope double decker bus which is kitted out with plasma screens and computer games was there for those wanting to chill out in style and comfort.

Several craft stalls, a bookstall, an information area and a prayer zone ran during the day. In fact for anyone wanting prayer even now after the event can text their request to 07979 611534 and it will be forwarded by email to a team ready to pray for them.

At 11.30 am there was a worship service on the stage, open to all. Representatives of local churches were involved, with a worship band led by John Rumble. Our guest speaker was Rev Dr Joel Edwards who for over 10 years and until recently was the General Director of the Evangelical Alliance www.eauk.org and is now International Director for Micah Challenge www.micahchallenge.org.uk

From 1pm there was a picnic lunch with a BBQ opportunity (hog roast, burgers and sausages), drinks, ice cream and a live music session from local singer Tina Oldham.

After the service the morning events continued around the park and on the stage from 2.00—4.30pm there was a schools' song festival with Sheila Wilson & band. Six Marlow schools took part:-Burford, Foxes Piece, Holy Trinity, Little Marlow, Sandygate and St Peters. Between the schools' performances the large crowd was entertained by circus acts Katy Kartwheel www.circuspassion.com and Roly Bain www.rolybain.co.uk

People are seeking hope more than ever in the gloomy economic & political climate of 2009. Hope in the Park was a celebration bringing Jesus’ message of hope to Marlow. Thanks to all who joined us!
