Pat Hunt's China Trip
Pat Hunt went with others from River to visit Kate last year. Here's she gives us a taste of her visit.....
What made you decide to go and how did you "sign-up" for the trip? This was to be my second trip to China, I had travelled with Kate and others in 2000 to the Xinjiang Province and I was aware Kate's real focus was always to be 'elsewhere', so to travel with her and her colleagues in these early days was something not to be missed.
Was it an expensive thing to do? Most of the costs of the trip were the outward and return flights. Food and accommodation costs outside the major cities are much less and very different to the UK.
If you had to choose one high point, what would it be? There were many high points, each day there was something very special to remember. Seeing Kate teaching three little girls to sing "Jesus loves you" on top of a hillside... "L" playing her guitar to some attentive young boys.... and "K" surrounded by children full of curiosity.... AND just being part of all of that was something very special
What was the most difficult part?saying Goodbye to Kate at the aiport What did you learn? I learnt how a faith in Jesus, the son of the Father can be with you wherever you are, even when you are a foreigner in another country, you are always part of the special family
What do you feel you were able to give? Being a friend who really cares for these smashing women
What encouragement would you give to anyone who's reading this and wondering if they could do something similar? There are a number of different opportunities for short term visits, I would recommend you go and enjoy them and you will find you will have opportunity to grow in your faith. If you are thinking of life long mission, then that needs special preparation and discussion. Go for it!! |
