Oasis Coach Trip

The third thursday of July 2008 wasn't just our regular Oasis meeting for the over 50's, but a wonderful day out to Chichester and Bognor. OK, the weather wasn't so wonderful, but we didn't actually get rained upon despite the forecast! And the grey skies did not prevent us from having a lot of laughs and a lot of good food.

We left Windsor Hall at 9:30 in the morning in a very comfortable coach with our driver Kevin. There were 28 of us in all - not quite as many as expected as a number had been taken out at the last minute by illness. We went first to Chichester for a visit to the coffee shop and a quick look round the Cathedral. It was great to hear some pilgrims worshipping with trumpets and voices at the cathedral and rededicating their lives around the baptistry, reminding us of the spiritual significance of the cathedral, and that this is not just a lovely place to go sighteeing.

Following that it was back on the coach for a short drive through some very narrow roads to the Inglenook Hotel and Restaurant at Pagham. This beautiful 16th century hotel was bedecked with flowers and was very pretty.  Inside the banquetting rooom had been prepared for our arrival and the staff efficiently served our lunch of roast chicken, new potato's and vegetables, followed by a choice of desserts (the fruit salad was delicious) and tea and coffee with mint chocolates.

Afterwards the coach took us to Bognor, where I would like to say we sunbathed on the beach, but I cannot lie! In reality we braved the fresh wind and walked along the front, blew away the cobwebs, and spent a few pounds in the little market there. Some of us risked busting our belts by visiting the Royal Norfolk Hotel for tea and cake!

Leaving Bognor just after 5:00 we got back to Windsor after 7pm, tired and a few pounds heavier but having enjoyed a wonderful day out with great company.
