Kairos Course 2008 Report

What a great week it was when River Church hosted a one week Kairos Course for the Big Year and others from the church and the mission field. The course was wonderfully faciltated by Jan Weir, assisted by Di, Vicky, Becky and Tom who had all done Kairos previously. It was great to have Andy and Val Simcock from Thailand, Gerorge & Julie Port from Slough and Big Yearers Charleigh, Hanna, Matt and Pete, all of whom received much insight into mission; theologically and experientially.
The course included a number of presentations, some great dvd's, a lot of reading plus small group reviews and was quite intensive, 9:30am to 8:30pm most days. But it also included a lot of fun times as we ate lunch and dinner together and participated in different acts of worship and prayer for the various people groups in the world - and increasingly on our own doorstep! We also experienced an unplanned exercise in contextualisation, when a power cut on the first day left us without our projector, no hot water and - even worse - no tea or coffee! Fortunately the power was restored that night in time for Tuesday's presentations.
Do you appreciate how much you are blessed? I'm sure you do, but with it comes a responsibility to bless others. That mandate given to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3 applies to us as well! As a result of doing this course I know we have released eight more 'World Christians' that will hasten the day of Jesus' return.
Thanks to all those who helped with all the practical jobs like shopping and cooking, we couldn't have done it without you. And thanks to all those who came to learn and open up their hearts and lives to the mission heart of God - how about some of you adding your impressions? |
