oASIS

10:30 am Thursday January 17th saw the inaugural meeting of Slough's own initiative for the over 50's at the Windsor Hall. And what an encouraging start it was. Advertised as an inter-congregational event, not just for the Church but for our friends, neighbours and ....well, anyone we could drag off the street, we had an attendance of 20 including a number of first-time visitors. One lady came from the street opposite, but her visit started with her son driving from Abingdon in order to bring her! Everyone said how much they enjoyed the event, and how welcome they felt.

Thanks so much to Florence Peters who had the vision and drive to get Oasis started, to Elizabeth Chudley for wonderful leading on keyboard in worship. Thanks also go to Jan Vickers who, as an honorary 50+, shared an amusing yet encouraging word with us regarding the faithfulness and ability of God to lead us into fruitfulness, whatever our age! Thanks also for all those who baked cakes, made and served tea and coffee, set up and set down - and especially to the members of the Slough Midweek Group who for the last two weeks have given up their Wednesday meetings to deliver nearly 800 leaflets through the doors around the Windsor Hall. Stars every one!
When's the next meeting, did I hear you say? Every third Thursday of the month, so that makes it 21st February. Why not come along, and bring your friends. It's great to have a daytime meeting in the week and what a way to witness to our community. Great work everyone. |
